Kent high school student serves as legislative page for Rep. Mark Hargrove

Felicia McKenzie of Kent served as a legislative page for the House of Representatives the week of March 5-9, which was the final week of the 2012 regular session. Felicia is an 11th-grader at Kent-Meridian High School. She was sponsored by Rep. Mark Hargrove, R-Covington.

The page program offers students the opportunity to learn more about how the state Legislature operates and sponsor mock legislation.

As part of her page duties, the 16-year-old student delivered messages and documents to legislators in their offices and on the House floor. Her work also included climbing hundreds of stairs each day and navigating the many buildings on the Capitol campus.

Each week, students 14- to 16-years-old from across the state serve in the legislative page program. They must have a legislative member as a sponsor, as well as permission from their school and parents. To learn more about the page program, visit the website.
